How We Worship

IMG_5263Worship is central to the life of Advent. We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday, inviting all to share the Lord’s Supper with us, sharing our belief that Christ is present in, with and under the bread and the wine. Worship is held at 8 AM and 10:30 AM.

Sunday worship services include a variety of different settings rooted in our Lutheran theology including Marty Haugen’s Now the Feast and Celebration and settings from Evangelical Lutheran Worship.  We try to incorporate the traditional as well as the more contemporary aspects of worship in a blended way that offers a place for all to be fed.

Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday services are rooted in the gentle, haunting beauty of music and contemplation that ask us to look at who we are before the gift of the cross.   Marty Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer serves as our instrument for Lenten worship on Wednesday nights. On Palm Sunday we offer Walt Wangerin’s Cry of the Whole Congregation, a deeply moving, participatory drama involving the entire congregation. The Good Friday Tenebrae service centers on readings from the story of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion as we move from Light to Darkness.

Easter Sunday is a Resurrection Celebration sharing powerful scripture readings and the best of traditional and contemporary song. The Christmas Eve candlelight service is composed entirely of Christmas carols and readings celebrating the birth of the Messiah.
